The New “4Z” Multifunctional series: highest comfort and lowest running costs for all year round climate control.
Daikin Applied is proud to announce the launch of the new Multifunctional chiller series the “4Z” capacity ranges from 400kW up to 1415kW, equipped with Daikin single screw compressor, inverter driven and variable volume ratio technology. The New Daikin Applied Multifunctional series is the perfect answer in delivering a contemporary cooling and heating solution, which is designed to meet what the building demands in the most efficient and sustainable manner. Recently the need for higher level of comfort has significantly increased and in particular in those applications where cooling and heating are to be provided to different areas of the building.
A Multifunctional unit (also known as “4-piepe”) is the perfect answer to meet this need thanks to its five different operating modes:
- Cooling only
- Heating only
- Cooling and heating perfectly balanced
- Cooling demand higher than heating
- Heating demand higher than cooling.
Multifunctional units can be considered as an efficient alternative to traditional solutions where, for example, chillers are used to satisfy the cooling load and boilers are covering the heating load. If compared to a traditional heat pump system, multifunctional units are also capable of satisfying contemporary cooling and heating demand without any restriction. Not only do Multifunctional units allow significant cost savings on installations (one single product satisfying cooling and heating demand), they are also a very efficient solution thanks to their capability of energy recovery.
In buildings where a contemporary cooling and heating solution is required, the Daikin Applied 4Z system works in heat recovery mode, avoiding the typical energy waste of traditional equipment. When working in total heat recovery mode (cooling and heating load balanced), the unit simply “transfers” the heat from the cooling loop to the heating loop in the most efficient way. That specific operating mode, combined with Daikin’s leading technology, allows new Daikin Applied “4Z” series to achieve the highest efficiency level in the market. The efficiency in total heat recovery mode (TER, Total Energy Ratio) reaches 8.7.
One of the main reasons behind such high efficiency levels of the Daikin Applied “4Z” series is the advanced design of one of the most important components of the unit: the compressor. The new Multifunctional series is also equipped with latest Daikin design of the single screw compressor.
That compressor is fitted with Daikin’s design inverter that is cooled by liquid refrigerant. The inverter drive is integrated within the compressor casing allowing simplified unit design and reduced unit footprint.
The refrigerant cooled inverter allows the installation of the unit in even the most extreme environments, such as high ambient or industrial sites where traditional air cooled inverters may not be the ideal solution.
The inverter drive is modulating compressor capacity at part load in the most efficient way. In this way, the energy consumption at part loads is drastically reduced compared to fixed speed compressors. This is extremely important if considering that the unit will run at part loads for most of the time during the year.
More than this, the Daikin compressor is enjoying Variable Volume Ratio technology (VVR). A specifically designed slide vale adjusts the geometry of the discharge port so that the refrigerant discharge pressure can match with the condensing pressure. In this way, the typical energy losses of traditional compressors are avoided thanks to the fact that the refrigerant is compressed exactly at the required pressure level.
VVR technology is the best possible solution for Multifunctional units that are required to operate during the year at various conditions of temperature, cooling and heating load demand.
In additional to the highest efficiency levels, the Daikin Applied “4Z” series has numerous features that are differentiating this product from others.
First of all the largest capacity on the market for a Multifunctional unit: up to 1.411 kW in cooling and up to 1.415 kW in heating at nominal conditions. Thanks to the possibility of the inverter modulating compressors’ rotational frequency, the Daikin Applied “4Z” can satisfy any unforeseen cooling and/or heating peak loads thanks to the “boost” mode allowing up to 15% extra cooling/heating capacity. In this way, the unit can be selected without the need for oversizing in order to match the peak load requirements that may be experienced just for few days during the year.
The Daikin Applied “4Z” is available in three different sound configurations that can satisfy various installation requirements; the super quiet version can go down to 66 dB(A) sound pressure level at one meter distance. Thanks to the capacity modulation with inverter, depending on unit model and rating conditions, sound levels reduce by an additional up to 10 dB(A) at partial loads.
Also the operating envelope is the widest on the market: hot water production goes up to 61°C and chilled water can go down to -10°C in case of process cooling applications.
The new “4Z” series is compatible with the latest Daikin Applied control and monitoring platforms.
The Daikin on Site cloud based platform allows a number of advanced functionalities including remote monitoring, system optimisation and preventive maintenance.
More than that, the Multifunctional series comes with Master/Slave functionality as standard allowing to connect up to 4 units on the same system without the need of external control devices.
In case of more complex installations (e.g. higher number of units, peripherals control, etc.), Daikin can offer the Intelligent Chiller Manager, a solution entirely designed and programmed by Daikin Applied allowing full customisation of the control solutions to the specific plant needs.
Thanks to the advanced solutions, the new “4Z” Multifunctional series confirms Daikin Applied’s leadership in water based solutions by introducing a new market standard in the applications where the highest energy performance levels are required.
