In a rapidly changing built environment, the demand for safe, sustainable, and efficient building services has never been higher. The NHS is targeting net zero by 2040, while the built environment as a whole must reduce emissions by 43% by 2030 to keep the UK on track for its climate commitments. At the centre of this transformation stands Daikin Applied (UK) – proudly manufacturing air handling units (AHUs) in Britain, supported by a team of UK-based engineers delivering bespoke solutions designed specifically for the challenges of our market.
Unlike many global HVAC suppliers, Daikin Applied (UK) combines the strength of a world leader with the agility of a local manufacturer. Every AHU produced at our Cramlington facility in Northumberland is engineered for UK requirements, meeting the strictest NHS, healthcare, and commercial standards. Furthermore, our British base ensures that expert engineers are readily available to provide tailored advice, faster support, and the confidence that comes from working with a partner who understands local regulations, building standards, and operational pressures.
As Valerio Micali, Applied Product Manager at Daikin Applied (UK), recently outlined, our future strategy is rooted in holistic HVAC solutions that integrate energy efficiency, digitalisation, and lifecycle sustainability. Whether it’s cutting embodied carbon, reducing operational emissions, or providing flexibility for facilities managers, our approach is to look at the entire building system – not just the equipment – and deliver solutions that make a measurable difference.
This strategy is already bearing fruit:
Products and Services Making Waves
The new HTM-Pro T Series AHU is a breakthrough for NHS estates. Compact, fully compliant with HTM 03-01, and manufactured in Cramlington, this solution provides a carbon- and cost-saving option for space-constrained hospital sites. With fan efficiency values exceeding regulatory standards, up to 80% heat recovery, and simplified maintenance features, the HTM-Pro is already being adopted as a strategic fit for NHS net-zero goals. In real-world testing, sites have reported energy savings of up to 25% compared with legacy AHUs.
Our Daikin on Site (DoS) connected services platform is transforming HVAC maintenance. By combining active remote monitoring, predictive maintenance, and refrigerant leak detection, we help facilities reduce carbon emissions and costs – often without incurring new capital spend. From reducing energy waste to providing auditable CO₂ savings, DoS gives facilities managers the visibility and control they need to make smarter decisions. For example, at Oxford Instruments, DoS enabled schedule optimisation that cut over 20,000 kWh annually.
With data centres expanding rapidly, the new Pro-W CRAH range delivers high-efficiency, scalable cooling designed for mission-critical uptime. This expansion of our data centre portfolio underlines Daikin’s role as a partner of choice for one of the UK’s fastest-growing and most energy-intensive sectors.
Manufactured in Rome but making waves in the UK, the EWYS-4Z chiller offers simultaneous heating and cooling for mixed-use buildings. With outstanding seasonal efficiency and flexibility, it enables specifiers to reduce both operational costs and environmental impact.
Due to be available in 2025, Daikin’s first propane air-to-water chiller represents a leap forward in sustainable refrigerant use. Propane (R-290) is ultra-low GWP, and when paired with Daikin’s inverter-driven technology, it offers facilities a future-proof route to decarbonisation.
Launched to meet growing demand for financial flexibility and resilience, Daikin Rental Solutions provides chillers, heat pumps, and AHUs on both short- and long-term rental agreements. For some, this means emergency cover during refurbishments or seasonal peaks – such as supporting an NHS hospital with temporary AHUs during critical operating theatre upgrades. For others, it offers a way to access the latest energy-efficient technology without the upfront cost. All rentals are backed by installation, commissioning, and DoS remote monitoring for reliability and peace of mind.
At the heart of our strategy lies a commitment to sustainability and ESG leadership. We are:
Crucially, most of our products are Eurovent certified, independently verifying their performance, efficiency, and compliance. Daikin Applied UK is the only AHU manufacturer in the UK with Eurovent-certified AHUs, providing customers with unrivalled assurance of quality and transparency.
This is why the NHS, data centres, universities, and leading commercial estates are increasingly partnering with Daikin Applied UK: our solutions combine world-leading technology with a clear path to net zero compliance.
Every Daikin solution is built around safety and compliance. From HTM-certified hospital ventilation systems to stringent F-Gas regulations and building safety standards, our products and services are designed to give facilities managers the confidence they need. We also operate under internationally recognised standards such as ISO 9001 for quality management and ISO 14001 for environmental management, alongside industry accreditations including BESA membership. Our ethos is simple: the right solution, delivered safely, backed by expert engineers who understand the standards and certifications that matter.
The future of HVAC in the UK is about more than equipment. It’s about resilience, local expertise, and sustainability. At Daikin Applied UK, we are proud to say that our AHUs are designed, engineered, and manufactured in Britain – supported by local engineers who can provide bespoke solutions, faster support, and better advice than global competitors.
Our AHUs are not just built in Britain – they are built to perform. From ultra-efficient heat recovery to advanced filtration and optimised controls, they deliver real-world savings in energy and carbon year after year. With every project, we bring together cutting-edge technology and British engineering expertise to create solutions that are efficient, sustainable, and tailored to UK needs.
Looking further ahead, advances in artificial intelligence and machine learning are poised to enhance the capabilities of our connected services, enabling predictive optimisation of entire plant rooms across multiple building types. By combining Daikin’s global R&D strength with local engineering expertise, we will continue to deliver solutions that adapt intelligently to the needs of UK facilities.
From hospitals to data centres, from short-term rental to long-term decarbonisation strategies, Daikin Applied UK is shaping the future of HVAC with solutions engineered in Britain, for Britain. With local expertise, Eurovent-certified quality, a clear sustainability strategy, and a proven track record of innovation, we stand ready to partner with facilities managers, engineers, and decision-makers across the UK.
